I get a lot of flack for my misleading video titles.  Clearly, Suvi is not “attacking” this child (who happens to be my nephew).  I get comments from angry YouTubers suggesting that they got betrayed because my dog(s) were not actually attacking anyone and that I should change the title of my videos.  There are many videos throughout YouTube with misleading titles and I’ll admit, I get annoyed when I search the “official” video for my favorite band or the “official” trailer for an upcoming movie I want to see and I end up watching a grainy video from someone who pointed a video camera at their home television.  These people are obviously just looking to get views.

This is different.

27.8 million people have watched Ramsey, Pablo and Suvi on YouTube and I couldn’t care less.  Don’t get me wrong – I want people to enjoy my videos.  It never gets old reading comments or emails from people who tell me that Ramsey, Pablo and Suvi helped them through the loss of a family pet.  Or from college students who are away at school and these videos got them through an extended time away from their own dog.  But the greatest satisfaction I get from posting all these videos is when people tell me that they or their parents were previously misinformed about dobermans or pit bulls or even chihuahuas and that my videos helped them see just how great these breeds truly are.  So the idea that someone stumbles upon my videos when searching for a doberman attack to reaffirm their breed prejudice and realizes just how wrong they’ve been all this time gives me enough reason to continue mislead people…in a good way.  Enjoy the video!

I should add that Courtney has not asked me to do this.  In fact, she has no idea and would probably tell me not to.   I just know that she is spending a lot of time and money to save her best friend – something I can absolutely appreciate and respect.  The medical bills are stacking up and no one plans for circumstances like these so please, please consider giving up a few spare dollars to help her pay for Lexie’s surgery if you can.  I’ve set up a Chip-In account for the cause and will personally see that Lexie gets all the donations in the name of  “Friends of Ramsey, Pablo and Suvi”.  She will also be able to see each of your individual donations on our Chip-In account.

I actually got a lump in my throat from witnessing this.  What a cool kid!

Of course Dax’s father was with him.  He verified everything his seven year old had told us.  It seemed pretty clear that Dax was the mastermind behind this operation and dad was just along for the ride, but good parenting seems to be a lost art these days and lots of people should take notes from him.   I was just so impressed by the both of them.

Monster Drawings By Dax

On Friday, May 11th, Animal Planet made a visit to our house.  They spent the day filming all of us for an upcoming episode of Bad Dog!

Now, I know what some of you are thinking…who is the “bad dog”?  The fact is, each of the dogs have their moments.  Don’t get me wrong – none of them are truly bad, but they all get into their own little versions of trouble now and again.

Suvi.  What can I say about Suvi?  She’s a piece of work.  At not quite three years old, she’s the excitable little kid in our family.  Suvi  has so much energy and she hasn’t mastered the ability to harness it quite yet.  She occasionally likes to jump up on people or sneak a sloppy wet kiss on an unsuspecting  victim.  She’s also been known to play a little too rough with other dogs – not with Ramsey or Pablo though.  Ramsey has enough momma bear in her to put Suvi in her place if things get too physical and she obliges every single time.  Suvi is amazing with Pablo.  Pablo antagonizes her on a regular basis and she just looks at him like he’s crazy (which he is).

There isn’t an ounce of viciousness in this pit bull.  I truly believe that.  Suvi is a little rough around the edges and we work with her daily on this.  She’s made huge strides over the last year and there is nothing more amazing than seeing such progress in an animal that some view as a killer, but most of us know they only kill you with kindness.

Ramsey.  In all the videos, Ramsey appears to be the patient, angelic doberman who merely tolerates Pablo (and now Suvi).  Truth be told, Ramsey has her devilish side.  This includes, but is not limited to treat stealing.  There are times where I’ll give them all a treat, and Pablo may not quite be ready to eat it.  In these cases, he’ll hide it in his blanket and then go back to sleep.  Ramsey patiently waits for Pablo to start snoring and then she’ll gently use her ant eater-like snout to find the treat and steal it away from Pablo.  It can be comical to watch, yet there are times where I don’t see it happen.  This leads to Pablo waking up and spending a significant amount of time looking for his treat which is now halfway through Ramsey’s digestive tract.

And then there’s the whining.  When Ramsey feels as though she’s not the center of attention, she’s capable of entering into a fit of whining so epic, it must annoy the dead.   If you think this is cute, you clearly don’t own a doberman!  Okay, so I’m joking (kind of).  Sometimes we have fun with it, but usually it’s just plain annoying and she has a knack for doing it during your favorite television show.  Unbelievable.

And finally, we have Pablo.  Animal Planet decided he was the naughtiest of the bunch.  This is true.  He is.  Pablo walks around like he owns the place.  Much of this is my fault.  I’ll admit that.  But I’ve always struggled with the fine line that separates aggressiveness and simply just standing up for yourself.  You see, Pablo will growl and bark at Ramsey and Suvi if he feels as though they might be a threat to his hidden treat stash or if they get too close to him while they’re wrestling in the house.  Given Pablo’s size, I’ve afforded him a little more slack when it comes to this behavior.  He’s had his treats and toys stolen many times.  Over the years, he’s learned what he needs to do to keep this to a minimum, and since he’s never EVER come close to biting or nipping Ramsey or Suvi in anything other than a playful way, I let him do his thing.

But this isn’t Pablo’s only interesting habit.  Pablo has decided that he’s the resident watch dog.  When the door bell rings, his initial thought is KILL.  It’s my theory that Ramsey, Pablo and Suvi have actually discussed the perimeter protection hierarchy.  Pablo has accepted his roll as the bait.  He’ll lure the perpetrator in the house, but he won’t go down without a fight.  Should the unlucky suspect make it past Pablo (and I doubt that), they would likely rethink their decision after seeing Ramsey and Suvi – the epitome of “visual deterrents”.  Long story longer, Pablo is less-than-social until he feels comfortable around strangers.  This is also something we’re working on.

These traits, along with many other have affectionately given Pablo the title of “Bad Dog” according to Animal Planet and according to our household.  We all love him to death and I often refer to these quirks as “personality”.  Dog trainers would probably disagree, but our household operates in harmony and each of the dogs are well-loved and know their places amongst each other.

So look for Ramsey, Pablo, Suvi, Brandy and I on an eight minute segment in season two of Bad Dog! late summer or early fall.  Stay tuned for exact show times and dates.  I’ll post them when they’re official.

If you’re reading this, you probably searched doberman or chihuahua on YouTube at some point in the last five years – possibly even pit bull if you’ve only recently discovered us.  I’m reminded of this fact every single time I upload a video starring less than three dogs.

“Where’s Pablo?”  Or, “where’s Ramsey?”  Now I even get a few “where’s Suvi?” ‘s.

I’ll admit, it can be frustrating.  It’s not easy to capture footage of all three dogs (or even two of them) doing something interesting enough to film for YouTube on a consistent basis.  There’s a lot of downtime (sleeping)  in this household, trust me.  But I realize I should be honored that people love my dogs enough to feel disappointed if my newest video left one of them out.  I’ve tried to be conscious of the videos I post so that it doesn’t seem as though I’m favoring Ramsey or Pablo or Suvi – to the point that it’s slowed the frequency of my uploads to YouTube because I may not have good footage of Pablo (for instance) when it’s time to post a video with him in it.

So I came up with an idea.  Some of you are going to hate it.  Some of you are going to like it.  That’s just the way it works.

I’ve decided to start three new YouTube channels – one for each dog.  Let’s face it, some of you are much bigger Pablo fans, while some of you prefer Ramsey.  Although, I have a hunch that many of you will become Suvi fanatics in near future, if you aren’t already!  I’m still going to upload plenty of videos to cwdressen, so don’t unsubscribe!  Haha.  The thing is, I have lots of footage of  just Pablo that may not be as interesting to those of you who are here for Ramsey.  The same goes for Ramsey footage.  Get what I’m saying?  Now you have options.  You can subscribe to the channels that interest you most.  Having said that, I’m hoping you’ll subscribe to all three!

Enough blabbing.  Please check out our three new channels.  I hope that you’ll subscribe and love the fact that you now have options depending upon what breed is closest to your heart.
