This weekend we were doing a little volunteer work for Suvi’s alma mater – Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue, when some kid walks in and hands over a huge wad of money totaling $181. He introduced himself as Dax. Dax explained to us in no uncertain terms that he sells monster drawings. This was the money he made from a local art fair which took place several weekends ago and he wanted MNPBR to have it. He goes on to say that he has a pit bull that his family adopted from Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue and he wants to help other dogs like his. It took me a moment to wrap my head around all this. When I was seven, $181 dollars was like having a million, yet it was no big deal for Dax to hand his fortune over to the organization that was responsible for giving his family pet a second chance at life.

I actually got a lump in my throat from witnessing this. What a cool kid!
Of course Dax’s father was with him. He verified everything his seven year old had told us. It seemed pretty clear that Dax was the mastermind behind this operation and dad was just along for the ride, but good parenting seems to be a lost art these days and lots of people should take notes from him. I was just so impressed by the both of them.
So, if you’re in the market for a super cool monster drawing such as the one below (and even if you’re not), click on over the his Facebook page – Monster Drawings By Dax. He takes requests for most any famous monster you can think of and he’ll ship them to you! Fifty percent of the proceeds go to charity and he’s assured us that his charity of choice will continue to be Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue for the time being.
