Is It Genetic?
Bosco and Gus

I’m beginning to wonder if there isn’t some sort of undiscovered genetic trait in humans which brings out the characteristics in animals that allow them to get along.

I’m beginning to wonder if there isn’t some sort of undiscovered genetic trait in humans which brings out the characteristics in animals that allow them to get along.

Okay so I’m mostly kidding.  But I say ‘mostly’ because pictured below is my sister and her husband’s Great Dane (Bosco) and their monster of a cat named Gus.  Gus is so big that he almost makes Bosco look small in this picture, but I assure you he tips the scale at about 140 pounds. Actually, most days these two want nothing to do with each other, but  occasionally the stars align and they set aside their differences long enough to snap a picture like this one.

And you thought a Doberman and Chihuahua were an unlikely pair…

A Readers Response To Blog Entry dated 13th May!!!

This e-mail was sent in response to the Blog entry above. We thought that it was cute and that we would share it with you - enjoy!

Hi Ramsey (Pablo, too),
This is a photo of me, Zoey from Schenectady, NY with my head out the sunroof. My lips aren't flapping yet, but they will be as soon as my Mom starts driving.

I read on your website that you enjoy the sunroof too, and that you slobber sometimes. Well, so do I. Isn't that a kick? I wonder if other Dobes like the fresh air like we do. Every now and then I do swallow a bug or two, but it is worth it just to have so much fun.

People laugh when they see me up there, do they laugh at you too? I love to make people happy.

Love, Zoey

Absolutely Hilarious
Pablo Picture

Today I witnessed something that made me laugh harder than I have in a long time.

I’ll admit, Ramsey and Pablo are a couple of spoiled dogs.  In fact, they hesitate to go outside if the weather is even remotely bad.  If it’s raining out, Ramsey will stick her head between my legs and walk at the same pace I do so that she doesn’t get any more wet than she has to.  I’m not kidding.

And Pablo makes me carry him to the sidewalk because the rain runs off the roof in front of the door and creates what must seem like Niagara Falls to a Chihuahua!

The dogs and I were lying on the couch (yes, all three of us on one piece of furniture) watching baseball when the local weather guy hijacked my game to tell me about the severe weather heading our way.  This gave me only a few minutes to safely get the dynamic duo outside to do their business before all hell broke loose!

If I’m in a hurry, I generally take them out one at a time.  This keeps them from distracting each other and not completing their mission in a timely fashion.  Whoever gets to the door first after I yell the magic word is the one who goes out first.

The wind had already picked up but it hadn’t started raining yet.  When I opened the door, they both seemed shocked by the conditions and neither wanted to be the ‘guinea pig’.  Pablo must have had to go a little more because eventually he decided brave the elements.  I followed him out the door and down the stairs.  The wind was blowing like an industrial-sized fan on super turbo mode and Pablo was in a dead sprint for his tree.

This is when the hilarity ensued...

Just as Pablo lifted his leg and started his business, a strong gust of wind actually blew him over on his back.  Unfortunately for him, he couldn’t shut it down!  He must have been a little shocked by what had just happened because he didn’t move right away.  There he lay on his back looking like part Chihuahua – part geyser!  A steady stream of pee was heading straight towards the heavens.

What seemed like forever probably only lasted a few seconds.  He flipped himself back around and put a stop to Old Faithful.  The poor guy was terrified but I couldn’t help it – I was laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes.  I looked around with hopes that someone else saw what happened, but no such luck.

Pablo flew up the stairs faster than I’ve ever seen him run.  And I swear he shot me a look that said “Let’s keep this between you and me.  Ramsey doesn’t need to know about this one.”

After a quick bath, he was back to normal.  But I’m guessing he’ll be a bit reluctant to go out the next time it’s windy.

Midwest Doberman Rescue of St. Louis
Midwest Doberman Rescue of St. Louis

I was recently contacted by a gentleman named Jim who volunteers for
Midwest Doberman Rescue of St. Louis here in the Midwestern United States. I was flattered to hear that he credited my videos for inspiring them to place videos of their available dogs on YouTube for this great not-for-profit rescue. I’ve been told that they’re excited about the response thus far. But that isn’t the reason for this blog entry!

I spent some time watching their videos of dogs waiting for homes and read about them on their website and I felt obligated to help publicize Midwest Doberman Rescue in any way I could.

I encourage everyone to check out their website and YouTube page. They have some great Dobermans available for adoption. If any of you are in a position or have been contemplating adoption, I hope you’ll consider them. They clearly love the breed and are doing some great things. While it may not be practical to contact them if you live elsewhere in the world, they are a great option if you reside anywhere near the Midwest.

NOTE:

I understand there are hundreds of rescue organizations with dogs who need our help. I have decided to feature one every so often with hopes that I can take advantage of the thousands of visitors to the Official Ramsey and Pablo Website each day and maybe help find homes for a few Dobermans. I feel compelled to focus mostly on the Doberman since they obviously are not in the best position from a public relations standpoint and need all the help they can get when it comes to finding homes. However that certainly doesn’t mean we won’t feature an occasional Chihuahua rescue.

Stay tuned!

Maybe They Really Are Famous
Welcome to the official Ramsey & Pablo website

After almost two years of making these silly videos for YouTube, I think it finally hit me just how well-known my dogs actually are.

I get messages and e-mails from people who throw around words like ‘famous’ and ‘celebrities’ when referring to Ramsey and Pablo.  And of course I laugh it off because even though the videos are relatively popular, they aren’t (and probably never will be) on the same level as just about any other famous animals you can think of.

But on Sunday, something very strange happened.

Ramsey was pacing around the house despite helping me clean the garage all morning (actually she spent the whole time laying in the driveway and soaking up some sun while I did the work).  Anyway, I decided to take her to PetSmart with me.

Her and I have been there a hundred times before and each time she prances on in like she owns the place!  Occasionally she’ll stop and chat with other dogs, but usually she is too busy test driving various toys and bones to spend much time making friends.

On this particular day PetSmart was rather busy.  I’ve grown used to people stopping me and asking if they can pet Ramsey.  I think it’s mostly because Doberman sightings are much rarer than Labs or Golden Retrievers for instance.  Ramsey and I were maneuvering our way through an isle and I said her name to get her attention.  All of the sudden, a lady spun around towards me and her jaw dropped.  I braced myself for anything she was about to say because she looked pretty frightened.  But instead, the words she uttered made my jaw drop even further than hers!

Lady:  “Her name is Ramsey?”
Me:  (Apologetically) “Yeah I’m sorry, she’s totally harmless!”
Lady:   “Oh my gosh is this the Ramsey from YouTube?”
Me:  (Completely amazed) “Yeah she’s on YouTube.”

She proceeded to run down the isle and call her friend over.

Lady:  “Carolyn you have to get over here.  Remember the Ramsey and Pablo videos on YouTube?  Ramsey is here!  She’s here in the store!”
Carolyn:  “Ramsey the Doberman is here?”
Lady:  “Yes, yes get over here!”
Carolyn:  “That can’t be her.  Ramsey on YouTube is HUGE and this Ramsey is smaller.”
Me:  (Laughing) “Yeah I’ve heard that before.  I promise this is her.”
Lady:  “I can’t believe this.  Where’s Pablo?”
Me:  (Still laughing) “Pablo is at home.  He doesn’t like PetSmart too much.”

Both women asked if they could kiss her and give her a hug.  They did so and then Ramsey and I went on with our shopping.  These women acted as if they met a famous actor or musician and I’m pretty sure they would have asked for an autograph if Ramsey was literate!  I honestly couldn’t believe that she was recognized in public from YouTube.  I’m still in shock.

On the way home Ramsey navigated with her head out the sunroof as usual with her lips flapping away and her slobber occasionally catching my arm.  I couldn’t help but look at her and shake my head and laugh.

Maybe these two dogs really are famous.
